Privacy policy
Effective 10 October 2026. Last updated 10 October 2026.
The short version. Stroll India has no accounts, no sign-up, no cookies and no ads, and we never sell your data or use it for advertising. Your walkers and progress are stored only in your own browser, on your device. We use privacy-focused, anonymous analytics to count visits and measure speed.
Who we are
Stroll India (stroll.theoriginlabs.dev) is a free web app made in India by The Origin Labs. You can reach us at hello@theoriginlabs.dev.
What stays on your device
Everything you do in the app is saved in your browser's own storage on your device. We never receive a copy:
- Your walkers and progress (IndexedDB): walker names and looks, trips, stamps, badges, streaks, tasks, street coverage, spotting log, build districts and settings. Walker names are whatever you type; please don't use anything you'd rather keep private.
- Place summaries (localStorage): short Wikipedia extracts you have opened, kept so the cards load faster next time.
- App files (Cache Storage, via a service worker): so the app opens quickly and works offline.
Because this data never leaves your device, clearing your browser's site data removes it permanently. You can save a copy with Settings → Export backup, restore it with Restore backup, or delete everything with Settings → Erase everything.
What we receive
Anonymous usage analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It uses no cookies; a visitor is recognised for at most 24 hours by a hash of the request, which is then discarded. For each page view it records the time, the page path, the referring site, filtered query parameters, an approximate location (country, region, city), and the device type, operating system and browser. We see this only as aggregated statistics. See Vercel's Web Analytics privacy notes.
Performance measurements. Vercel Speed Insights records how fast pages load (web vitals such as first contentful paint), with the route, network speed class, browser, device type, operating system and country. It is not tied to any individual. See Vercel's Speed Insights privacy notes.
Hosting. The app is served by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel processes technical request data such as your IP address to deliver pages and protect the service, under Vercel's privacy policy.
We do not use advertising, cross-site tracking, fingerprinting, or social media pixels.
Services your browser contacts directly
- Wikipedia. When you open a place card, your browser fetches a summary and an image from Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org and upload.wikimedia.org). Those requests go straight from your browser to the Wikimedia Foundation, whose privacy policy applies.
- Sharing. Share cards are drawn on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to share: the share sheet hands the image to the app you pick, and the WhatsApp, X, LinkedIn and Facebook buttons open those sites with a pre-filled message. Their own policies apply from that point.
- Clipboard. The app writes to your clipboard only when you tap a copy button (for example, a caption or a blueprint code).
What we don't access
Walks are virtual. The app never asks for your location, camera, microphone or contacts, and our security headers block those features outright. Time-of-day features (lighting, timed moments, rare sightings) read your device's clock on your device only.
Children
Stroll India is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children: there are no accounts, and progress stays on the device.
Your choices and rights
- Export, restore or erase your progress at any time from Settings, or clear the site's data in your browser.
- Browsers and extensions that block analytics will stop the anonymous page-view counting; the app works the same.
- Where data protection law applies to you, such as India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 or the EU/UK GDPR, you may ask us about, or object to, any processing described here. Because we hold no account or profile linked to you, we usually cannot single you out, but we'll answer every request. Contact us at hello@theoriginlabs.dev.
Security
The app is served only over HTTPS, with a strict content security policy that limits which sites it can talk to: itself, Wikipedia and Vercel's own services.
Changes
If we change how the app handles data, we'll update this page and its date before the change takes effect, and point to it from the app for significant changes.
